is live in massachusetts, south of boston with a look at the conditions there. maria, good morning. >> well, good morning. you can see for yourself the conditions are pretty awful. the winds are anywhere from 40 to 50 miles per hour, at times gusting higher than that. you can see what it's doing to the water. then we have the overwatch along with that push of water. so we've seen a number of coastal flooding report places like nantucket having six inches of water over some spots. just over the last few hours, a buoy off of buzzard's bay, the winds gusted to 67 miles per hour. wind advisories posted all along the new england coast. they'll drop away this afternoon. that is some good news as the winds will start to ease, as the storm pulls away later tonight. still you see that potential for 30 to 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts. no doubt this will lead to some big head aches at boston logan. commuters either greeted with some flooding on the roadways or perhaps in places like worcester, mass, just to our north and west, looking at several inches of snowfall and that could continue the n

to concede after many networks took an hour to call the race. danielle leigh is live in boston with more on that. danielle, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this ballroom cleared out almost immediately after romney conceded the race. thousands of once excited supporters walked out in quiet disappointment, in many ways, the life just sucked out of them. romney appeared for only a few minutes and briefly addressed everyone. he thanked them for their support, congratulated barack obama, and then he discussed his disappointment that he would not be the next u.s. president. >> i so wish, i so wish that i had been able to fulfill your hopes, to lead the country in a different direction, but the nation shows another leader, and so ann and i join with you to earnestly pray for him and for this great nation. thank you and god bless. >> reporter: and another key topic that came out of mitt romney's speech here, he said that leaders need to work together. he called on them to come across the table and address the gridlock in congress. that's something that's going to be a key topic in the n

to not bring a lot of precipitation inland, but with cold air around, it could be snowing from boston to new york and right down through new jersey into delaware and areas just north and east of washington. this is as of 3:00 this afternoon. that's when we'll have some of that colder air getting drawn into the storm, changing the rain to snow. and then this evening, this is as of 7:00 p.m., we still could have some of that just to the north and east of washington, some of the heavier amounts of snow, northern delaware, up into new jersey, and around the new york city area. and then that storm system then deepens more and moves on up toward eastern new england, and we here will dry out. this is a thursday morning at 5:00. we ought to have the cloud cover breaking up. we'll get some sunshine back tomorrow. i'll have all the details on that. we'll take a look at the seven day outlook. that will be coming up here in another ten minutes. for the day today, hour by hour. you'll need an umbrella this morning. a chilly light rain by 6:00 a.m., upper 30s. by noontime, the low 40s. winds will begin to

in front of him in boston, romney cong t congratulated the president in public. he wants to find common grounds on areas congress disagreed like the deficit and budget cuts. accepting the loss, romney urged supporters to go ahead and look for new solutions. >> the nation is at a critical point. at a time like this, we can't risk partisan bickering and political posturing. leaders have to reach across the aisle to do the people's work. we citizens have to rise in the occasion. >> this election ends romney's nearly six-year run for the presidency. he ran unsuccessfully for the nomination in 2008. there was speculation the candidates could split the electoral and popular vote. 12 hours after president obama won his second term, it's clear that he has both firmly in hanld. here is a look at the popular vote with 98% of precincts reporting. the president 60 million votes, romney 57 million. percentage wise, it gives the president a 50-48 advantage. >>> democrats are claiming a big win in virginia. tom cane beat george allen in the race for senate. kaine won by 6% in a hotly contested race. h

to overcome. here's a look at the advisories. all the way up to boston and maine. i think the areas around hartford, connecticut, and new jersey, where they've seen the bigger snowflakes already, the low visibility is the locations that could pick up that snowfall. again, making its way more and more into our area. slow-moving storm, but still for us, because it's taken so long, the saturated air is going to be in and out. philadelphia getting some mixed conditions. look around coastal new jersey. snow there showing up for us, again. we're going to see light showers. the little spritz of rain that we're getting, scattered right now. that will start to pick up more and more. by 7:00 p.m., light rain, maybe a few flakes that will start mixing in. same thing for 8:00, 9:00. and i think by the time we get to 11:00 p.m., midnight, our precipitation will be ending. temperatures above freezing. but with any wet roads tomorrow morning, may be looking at some slick spots. 43 leesburg. 39 winchester. plenty cold out there, again, with the wind, it's giving us lou windchill readings where it feels li

between new york and boston later today. they are in talks to borrow trains from canada to provide more service to hard hit parts of new jersey and new york. there's progress in new york's flooded subway tunnels. crews are slowly getting the water pumped out. there's still no word on when service through lower manhattan is expected to be up and running. the entire system is running on limited service. >>> the largest marathon in the country, the new york city marathon will go on as planned sunday morning. this has become a big source of controversy. the group in charge says they turned the event into a fund-raiser to help the victims of sandy. some says it trivializes those there. there will be a 20% drop off from last year due to the storm. the thing about the storm, it runs right through manhattan. >> that race. >> that race. that marathon runs right through manhattan, just where the storm ran through. >> i think it goes through owl five burros. a lot of folks think it's a good idea. it makes the people feel good. everything is normal. how about the weather? we love what we are seeing

washington, new york and boston. that's because crews are still repairing the damage caused by sandy. amtrak is telling passengers to make reservations by phone or online to avoid soldout trains and long lines at ticket counters. >> hurricane sandy is making it extremely difficult on the new york state board of elections. they're shipping generators out to polling locations that are still without power. the board is expecting a low turnout. less than 25% rejgistered voter. the news comes as new jersey's board of elections announced it will allow residents to e-mail their votes in if they cannot get to a polling station. >>> right now, montgomery county council president roger better lander is discussing pepco's response to hurricane sandy. he's meeting with members of the media at the council office building in rockville. thousands lost electricity in the county as trees knocked over power lines following the storm. but pepco is receiving mostly high praise for their response. restoring power to everyone only a few days after that dynamic storm. >>> jersey just can't catch a break. they had
